Activision reportedly did not want to produce the Call of Duty movie with Steven Spielberg
, by Thibaut
This week, Paramount and Activision announced together the production of a Call of Duty feature film. This project will be very ambitious and could have taken on a whole new dimension if it had been brought to life by a renowned director.
In fact, the website Puck News claims that Steven Spielberg wanted to be at the helm of this adaptation. The famous filmmaker is apparently a fan of Call of Duty and would have loved to bring the franchise to the big screen. He was set to team up with his artistic director, Amblin, and Jimmy Horowitz, a negotiator at Universal, to present his project.
Of course, Spielberg wanted to do things his way, forcing Activision to give him free rein over production costs, final editing, and even marketing. These conditions would have scared off the American publisher, who ultimately opted for David Ellison's pitch.
