For Capcom, the price of the PS5 is a barrier for Monster Hunter Wilds

Although Monster Hunter Wilds quickly sold 10 million copies worldwide, sales then plummeted. Between April 1 and June 30, 2025, the game sold only 477,000 units.
Haruhiro Tsujimoto, Capcom's president, addressed this issue in an interview. For him, the reason for this slight commercial disappointment is quite obvious. Tsujimoto blames the PS5 for being a barrier for consumers due to its high price.
"However, we have also found that the ‘PS5 barrier’ is surprisingly high. The console costs around ¥80,000. If you add the cost of games and monthly subscriptions, you're looking at around ¥100,000 at the time of purchase. That's not an easy amount to shell out, especially for the younger generation. This situation is not limited to Japan, but is also evident overseas."
In order to find a solution to this budgetary obstacle, Capcom wants to bring Monster Hunter Wilds to a wider audience. Haruhiro Tsujimoto was quick to point out that the majority of players have opted for the Switch 2, which is sold at a lower price than the PS5. Therefore, the studio could be considering porting the game to the Nintendo console.
