The US government is considering acquiring a 10% stake in Intel
, by Quentin
According to Bloomberg, the US government is currently discussing a plan to convert part of the subsidies provided under the CHIPS Act into a direct equity stake in Intel. The federal government could thus become a 10% shareholder, worth approximately $10.5 billion, making it the largest shareholder in the company.
The aim would be to strengthen the Intel Foundry business, created as a separate entity to attract funding and support the production of advanced semiconductors. This initiative would come at a time when the promised subsidies (nearly $10.9 billion) are still slow to materialize.
Nothing has been made official yet, but the markets have already reacted: Intel's stock fell more than 5% after the news was out.
