After leading The Coalition (Gears of War) from June 2015 to March 2020, Rod Fergusson joined Blizzard to oversee the Diablo IP.
Five years later, Fergusson has announced on social media that he is leaving his position. He says he is looking for a new challenge.
"After five years of driving the Diablo franchise forward with four big launches, it's time for me to step away from Blizzard/Microsoft, sword in hand, and see what's next. The teams are set up for success, with an exciting slate of releases ahead. I'm incredibly proud of what we've built together and looking forward to what comes next for Diablo, and for me."
On LinkedIn, Rod Fergusson spoke at greater length about Diablo.
"In nearly 30 years, the Diablo franchise has never been stronger or more relevant than it is today, thanks to the hard work of the many passionate and talented members of the Diablo team over the past five years. Whether it's the return of a classic with D2R, the bold leap to mobile with Immortal, or the record-breaking launch of Diablo IV and its first expansion Vessel of Hatred, each of these games lays the foundation for the teams to continue building the franchise's bright future."
