The GPD Win 5 has drawn some criticism for its design

The GPD Win 5 was announced at ChinaJoy and is the first portable to feature an Strix Halo APU (Ryzen AI MAX 300), with up to 40 RDNA 3.5 compute units. To manage the high power consumption needed, GPD has opted for dual fan cooling and an external modular battery system, rather than a built-in one.

The console boasts performance figures close to those of an RTX 4060, although this remains to be confirmed. However, its design has drawn criticism: a bulky power supply, no USB-C charging, no built-in keyboard, and it being impossible to use without an external battery. This first attempt with Strix Halo shows the limitations of the format, and some may prefer a more traditional gaming laptop.
