Santa Monica Studio's next big game won't be a new IP
, by Thibaut
After releasing God of War Ragnarök in November 2022, Santa Monica Studio has turned its full attention to a really ambitious new project helmed by Cory Barlog, director of God of War (2018).
This week, journalist Jason Schreier reported that development of this game was progressing well. However, there are still some doubts as to the exact nature of this title. There were rumors of a completely new license. According to Schreier, this is not the case.
Speaking on ResetEra, Schreier said that "it's not a new IP, but it might feel like one"*. He adds that this may be why people are confused about the game's identity. What's more, Schreier was clear that this is not at all a science-fiction-oriented title.
Could this be yet another change of direction for God of War, or a PlayStation franchise revisited for the occasion? It's far too early to say.
