Nintendo does not plan to lower the price of its Switch
, by Thibaut
Despite entering the seventh year of its life cycle, the Nintendo Switch has not been affected by a significant price drop. This could be a reason for the slight decline in sales during the last fiscal year.
In fact, 17.97 million consoles were sold worldwide during this period, a 22.1% decrease compared to the previous year. Moreover, during the current fiscal year (from April 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024), Nintendo plans to sell an additional 15 million consoles, representing another 16.5% decrease.
However, the Japanese company has no plans to revise its pricing strategy. The multinational announced through its president, Shuntaro Furukawa, that it does not intend to lower the prices of its different Switch models.
"As for hardware, the prices of some materials have gone down, but overall costs remain high. We also need to continue considering the impact of factors such as inflation and exchange rates... Even if raw material prices decrease, it will take time for this to be reflected in manufacturing costs. Currently, there are no plans to reduce the price of our hardware during this fiscal year."
