One of the most respected figures in the video game industry is Chris Avellone. The 53-year-old American screenwriter has worked on iconic titles such as Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Fallout: New Vegas and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 2.
This week, we learn that Avellone has joined Republic Games Studio, a new company founded by Adam Williams last year. He was previously head writer at Quantic Dream, with titles such as Detroit: Become Human and Star Wars Eclipse to his credit.
Together, the two men will work on a project inspired by "the golden age of role-playing games". This RPG will feature a "rich and interesting storyline with many choices, twists and turns".
"Our world will feature a totalitarian regime seeking to crush a rebellion, with competing factions and allegiances that the player can join. This will give them total freedom to create the hero - or anti-hero - they wish to be".
"There's also a deep undercurrent of prophecy and the supernatural that will elevate the player's adventure into the realms of mythology. But in addition to storytelling, we also have classic RPG gameplay, complete with combat, character creation, recruitable companions, romance and much more. Our ambition is to combine the design of the golden age of RPGs with high-level interactive storytelling."
