Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds will have less broken items than Mario Kart World
, by Thibaut
Mario Kart is notoriously unfair. A player in last place when attacking the last lap can easily finish first if they get the right item(s) to throw at their opponents.
This formula, which also has its advantages as the suspense remains until the last second, will not be followed by SEGA with Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. This is what Takashi Iizuka, President of Sonic Team, explained in an interview with GamesRadar.
Without ever directly naming Nintendo's license, Iizuka explained that the next Sonic Racing was originally conceived without any weapons. The aim was to offer a "fair and fun" racing experience. It was only after several playtests and a satisfactory driving experience that the devs added items. These were selected with the aim of bringing "a good dose of chaos" while maintaining "a sense of fairness towards the drivers".
Takashi Iizuka concluded by saying that objects will not allow a player ranked last during a race to "win all the time".
