Unreal Engine jumps to version 5.6 with a major performance gain
, by Thibaut
Back on June 3, Epic Games deployed Unreal Engine 5.6. The aim of this version was to allow the creation of vast open worlds capable of running without the slightest jerk at 60 FPS, all using current-generation hardware.
Comparisons have begun to flourish on YouTube, and this video from the MxBenchmarkPC channel highlights the optimizations made to the engine. Comparing a sequence captured on a machine equipped with an RTX 5080 GPU and an i7 14700F CPU, we can see a real gain in performance when switching from Unreal Engine 5.4 to 5.6.
The same video in a detailed, totally open Parisian environment goes from 84 to 118 FPS at 720p. Indoors, the results are similar, with an average gain of 10 FPS in native 1440p. In other words, the improvements are quite significant, to say the least.
