The GameCube emulator for Switch 2 presents several problems
, by Thibaut
The GameCube emulator exclusive to Switch 2 subs to the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion pack brings a welcome dose of nostalgia to the Japanese manufacturer's latest console.
Unfortunately, the experience currently suffers from a number of problems. The four main ones have been compiled in a video made by Modern Vintage Gamer on YouTube.
Following upscaling work that makesGameCube games run at a maximum definition of 960p, the 2D HUD elements of titles such as The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker appear in low definition. Also, there's a pronounced input lag, estimated at around eight frames, on the three games in the catalog. This means that there is a perceptible delay between the moment the player presses a key and the moment the action is triggered on screen.
Add to this the poor sensitivity of the analog sticks. This is the case when using the Joy-Con, the Switch 2's Pro controller or even the recently released GameCube controller. Finally, performance craters when playing online. The fault lies with the servers dedicated to Nintendo Switch Online, which have still to be improved and which already presented serious problems on Switch 1.
Nintendo needs to fix these various aspects in order to improve the experience of its players.
