Just Cause 5 was reportedly cancelled during development

Back in 2022, Square Enix stated in a financial report that a there was a Just Cause in development. Alas, it ended up going nowhere.
The MP1st site managed to track down the project thanks to the LinkedIn profile of a person who was in charge of vehicles on the game. The main person involved claims to have worked on Just Cause 5 between July 2021 and July 2023 at British studio Sumo Digital. It is also stated that the project is now "cancelled".
So, the fifth Just Cause being scrapped was probably decided in the course of 2023. It is not known whether Sumo Digital was the lead developer or just a supporting studio.
