Microsoft has reportedly put its handheld console on hold
, by Thibaut
It's been a bit of a turnaround for Xbox, which was looking forward to releasing its own handheld console. The Windows Central site reports that the American manufacturer has decided to shelve the machine for now.
Initially planned for around 2027, the portable Xbox has been temporarily shelved by the American manufacturer. The latter would prefer to focus its efforts "on improving gaming performance under Windows 11", as with “Project Kennan”, the portable console designed in partnership with ASUS that's due later this year.
Microsoft is said to be continuing to invest in the development of its own technology for Xbox handheld consoles. So, the device is not likely to be abandoned, and the manufacturer would still have great ambitions for it. It's simply a question of revising priorities in order to achieve a better allocation of the Group's resources.
The next-generation Xbox home console is not at risk at all, and is scheduled for release in 2027.
