Phil Spencer, the head of Xbox, explains the quality issues with Redfall
, by Thibaut
Microsoft has finally spoken out about the issues with Redfall. Recall that the FPS from Arkane Austin has been panned by critics and most players. The game is plagued by numerous bugs and a lack of depth in its gameplay, resulting in relatively low ratings on Metacritic, Steam, and other aggregators.
Today, Phil Spencer, the head of the gaming division at Microsoft, spoke out on the Kinda Funny Games podcast.
"There’s nothing that’s more difficult for me than disappointing the Xbox community,” Spencer said. “I’ve been a part of it for a long time. I obviously work on Xbox, I’m head of the business, I have a lot of friends and get a lot of feedback, and just to kind of watch the community lose confidence, be disappointed, I’m disappointed, I’m upset with myself."
Spencer also noted that the ratings for Redfall are well below what the teams were hoping for internally. He also added that Arkane will continue to work on the game, including working on adding a 60 FPS mode on Xbox Series.
The Xbox head admitted that his teams had not adequately supported the developers on this title.
"[...] And we didn’t do a good job early on in engaging Arkane Austin to really help them understand what it meant to be part of Xbox and part of first-party and use some of our internal resources to help them move along that journey even faster. We left them to work on the game… they’re a very talented team – I love that team, and I still do, and I will totally bet on them to do another great game."
