Peter Molyneux explains why Project Milo on Kinect never saw the light of day at a conference in Sweden

At the Nordic Game conference in Sweden, Peter Molyneux explained the reasons behind the cancellation of Project Milo, an experimental game developed for the Kinect on Xbox 360. The title, which featured voice interaction with a young boy via camera and microphone, was born of the idea of offering a more intimate and composed experience, inspired by Molyneux's relationship with his son.

However, several factors led to the project's abandonment: the initial Kinect, too expensive to produce, came out heavily downgraded, with a smaller field of vision. Microsoft eventually repositioned the Kinect as a party game accessory, which Molyneux refused: "I didn't want to wiggle around like an idiot," he declared. Thus, the concept of Project Milo was no longer part of Microsoft's product strategy.

Molyneux concludes that no one has ever seen the complete game, but that it was a "magical" experience centered on emotional connection rather than a heroic or apocalyptic scenario.
