Sony doesn't rule out a price increase for the PS5 due to tariffs

The PS5 continues to grow, having sold 77.8 million units worldwide so far. However, Sony is keeping a close eye on market trends, and may be making some tough decisions in the near future.

Lin Tao, the Japanese group's CFO, has made it clear that customs duties, which could come into force in the United States, could have an impact on the price of the PS5. Sony is keen to keep an eye on the market in order to dictate its future decisions. The manufacturer also wants to build up strategic stocks in the USA to avoid customs duties and diversify its supply chain. The PS5 is now manufactured in four countries (mainly China).

Tao also stated that Sony now places more importance on player engagement than on “units sold". She even notes that a kind of financial discipline has been decreed within the various divisions.

“In the past, there were various problems... we're still halfway there, but I think the mindset has changed considerably ”, Lin Tao said on the subject.
