Microsoft is still recruiting to ensure backward compatibility for its older games
, by Thibaut
The issue of game preservation is a central one at a time when industry players such as Ubisoft are shutting down the servers of their games, with owners losing access to content they've paid for. Fortunately, some companies are taking this issue head-on.
For example, Microsoft is currently looking to recruit a senior software engineer to contribute to "the evolution of Xbox game compatibility". The objective will be to ensure game preservation by identifying "the specific security requirements and limitations for protecting game content". The person will also create "scalable emulation solutions".
To put it simply, Microsoft will probably be looking to provide access to its older game catalogs on modern machines. It remains to be seen what form this initiative will take.
