Hideo Kojima admits that GTA VI had an impact on the release date of all other games

The video game industry had its eyes glued to Grand Theft Auto VI while waiting for the announcement of a precise launch date. It will finally be May 26, 2026, and all studios planning to launch something in 2025 can finally let out a sigh of relief.
On his radio show, Hideo Kojima clearly admitted that the release of a highly-anticipated title like GTA VI has repercussions on the arrival of all the other games on the market. And Death Stranding 2 seems to be no exception.
Kojima has indeed stated that he originally wanted a September 2025 release and, without saying so precisely, the June 26 date was no doubt chosen to avoid the initial GTA VI launch window.
Note that the show was recorded in April, so dear Hideo Kojima wasn't yet aware of Grand Theft Auto VI's delay.
""For example some are saying GTA may or may not release in November. As soon as it would be announced for November, everyone would move out of they way. For instance, if a new Mission Impossible movie were to release in May, others wouldn't be able to compete with that so would move somewhere else."
