After a rather mixed reception for Sonic Frontiers, the blue hedgehog may be returning to his roots. Through several tweets, Morio Kishimoto, the director of the latest installment, has expressed his desire to return to a style closer to Sonic Adventure. The next game could therefore opt for a movement style and level design inspired by the title released on Dreamcast in 1999.
Sonic Frontiers was pretty well-received when it released in November 2022, and is set to return to the spotlight soon.
