Oblivion Remastered saves disappear on Xbox and PC

Since its release, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has been deployed with a major bug: the game deletes certain saves on Xbox and PC.
Several players have reported losing files after several hours of play, with no error message whatsoever. Some are finding that their saves cannot be found on restart, despite their presence when the game is closed.
On Steam, users report that the game searches for save files in the wrong folder. Others report a "Disk full - save failed" error message, even with sufficient space.
A thread on the Steam forum has already attracted almost 100 comments. Bethesda has reportedly been contacted, and we hope the problem will be resolved very soon.
