A Blade Runner Game has been cancelled at Supermassive Games

Insider Gaming has revealed the existence of a project that will unfortunately not see the light of day. It's about a Blade Runner video game that was being developed by Supermassive Games (of Until Dawn, The Quarry and the The Dark Pictures Anthology fame).

This now-cancelled title was called Blade Runner: Time To Live and was to focus on narrative, with polished characters, cinematics and an action-adventure touch. The player would have controlled the last Blade Runner in 2065, in a single-player campaign lasting 10 to 12 hours. The game was to have featured an "exciting story blending the philosophical themes of Blade Runner with an action-adventure game".

Pre-production for Blade Runner had begun in September 2024 and was due to end last March. Prototyping would have been completed in September 2025, with a release date of September 2027 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC and next-generation consoles.

The documents also reveal that the game's budget was expected to be around $45 million. It was all in third-person, with stealth, combat, exploration and investigation. Dialogue was supposed to be authentic, punchy and poignant, with lots of character interactions. We could have improved our skills, with technology used for investigations and different memories to better understand the story.

According to early feedback, this Blade Runner: Time To Live was "pretty impressive". The cancellation is said to be the responsibility of Alcon, the licensee. The precise reasons are not known.
