The CMA blocks Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard!
, by Thibaut
While everyone (or almost everyone) expected validation, the CMA ultimately opposed Microsoft's acquisition of Activision Blizzard. A huge setback for the American firm, which chose to immediately appeal.
In its report, the British competition and markets authority believes that such an acquisition could harm competition in the cloud gaming market. An argument that had just been used by Sony and that the CMA has decided to uphold.
For its part, Microsoft says it is determined to complete the acquisition and regrets this choice which "discourages technological innovation and investment in the UK". The manufacturer goes even further by stating that "this decision seems to reflect a poor understanding of this market and how cloud technology actually works". A new showdown is about to begin!
