A BIOS change lets the RX 9070 compete with the XT
, by Quentin
Some users of the PC Games Hardware forums have managed to flash a Radeon RX 9070 with the BIOS of the RX 9070 XT, which increases the frequency and power limit (TDP), without affecting the number of cores or memory, which remain unchanged.
With this XT BIOS, the RX 9070 can be overclocked to achieve performance levels up to 15-20% higher than the original version. The results are close to those of an RX 9070 XT, or even surpasses them in some cases.
There are some stability problems, though, including ULPS mode deactivation and a few freezes. Correct operation also depends on the power supply system: boards with a single power connector run the risk of being unstable. This type of modification is best reserved for experienced users, and is not recommended without precautions.
