Chinese companies have ordered $16 billion worth of NVIDIA H20 chips

According to MyDrivers, several Chinese technology giants, including ByteDance, Alibaba and Tencent, have ordered more than $16 billion worth of H20 chips. All despite the limitations imposed on these models, designed to comply with US export restrictions.

H20s are lighter versions of NVIDIA's AI accelerators, poised as an alternative after the export ban on high-end models. This demand is said to be partly linked to the rise of local AI models such as DeepSeek R1 and V2, which have rekindled competition between Chinese AI players.

High demand is leading to shortages on the local market. So far, NVIDIA is reportedly facing delivery times of up to six months.
