Nintendo will try to revolutionize the use of digital games with its virtual game cards
, by Thibaut
Nintendo has announced a brand-new system for sharing games in digital format. To this end, the Japanese manufacturer has introduced virtual game cards.
Each digital title purchased will have its own virtual card. All cards will be stored on our Switch, enabling us to play on the machine. A dedicated management screen will then be accessible. Each card can be freely loaded or ejected from this section.
The most interesting feature is that a virtual game card can be transferred to another Switch at no extra cost, a bit like lending someone a physical cartridge. Both consoles will need to be connected locally, but only for the first transfer. After that, the transferred game(s) will be playable on the second Switch.
The same transfer can also be carried out within the same family group (up to eight Nintendo accounts). It will not be possible to lend more than one game at a time to each person. The loan of a game will last 14 days. The Virtual Game Card will then be automatically returned.
The feature is scheduled to be added at the end of April.
