AMD's FSR 4 improves image quality and is now closer to DLSS

It wasn't too lon ago that AMD revealed FSR 4, a new version of its upscaling technology, now powered by machine learning and exclusive to RDNA 4 cards. According to Digital Foundry, FSR 4 offers superior image quality to FSR 3, and corrects several shortcomings, including ghosting on particles, management of transparent surfaces and the level of detail of objects in slow motion.

In terms of performance, FSR 4 is around 8% slower than FSR 3 in Performance mode on Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, but the graphical improvement is pretty significant. FSR 4 outperforms DLSS based on the old CNN model in some cases, notably on static objects. On the other hand, DLSS with the Transformer model still performs better when it comes to detail rendition.
