Sony has been accused of artificially inflating PlayStation Store prices

A Dutch consumer group has filed a class action against Sony. Massaschade & Consument believes that Japanese company is abusing its dominant position to charge higher-than-average prices on its PlayStation Store.

These prices are said to be "artificially high", and the group goes so far as to claim that consumers are actually paying a kind of ’Sony tax". Put simply, the plaintiffs believe that Dutch gamers "pay too much for PlayStation games" and deserve compensation.

So on February 17, the legal body wrote to the Japanese brand with the aim of "holding it responsible for the abuse of its dominant position and its illegal behavior on PlayStation 4 and 5". Any consumer aged at least eight years residing in the Netherlands can add their name to the class action provided they have made a purchase on the PlayStation Store from November 29, 2013. This date marks the release of the PS4 in Europe.
