Xbox doesn't necessarily want to attract gamers to its platform anymore

On the latest XboxEra YouTube channel podcast, Phil Spencer made a number of statements that have been widely discussed already. And they speak volumes about the future of Xbox...

Like other companies, Microsoft has always sought to attract as many gamers as possible to its consoles. But according to the CEO of the gaming division, this is no longer the company's strategy.

Spencer also spoke about the PlayStation logo visible during Xbox's Developer_Direct for games expected on PS5. In their respective presentations, Sony and Nintendo only display their logos and never those of the competition for multiplatform titles. Microsoft has opted for transparency.

"I just want to be transparent with people. If we're releasing a game on Nintendo Switch, we're going to indicate that, if we're releasing it on PlayStation, if we're on Steam, people should know the stores where they can get our games."

Last but not least, Phil Spencer also explained that he didn't want to force players to subscribe to Game Pass, instead letting them buy the games included in the service directly.

"I think we've shown respect for people's libraries over the generations with backward compatibility and Play Anywhere, and I want to continue to do that. You can buy all the games in Game Pass, we're not trying to lock everyone into one business model. Play the games the way you want."

"Obviously, we have to run our business the right way. So we'll have our prices and everything we do, but I want to offer as many options as possible for the games we create."
