EA is restructuring BioWare, cutting jobs and transferring staff
, by Thibaut
Troubling news for the future of BioWare... The company has undergone a new restructuring plan with several implications for the development teams.
First, production of the next Mass Effect continues under the direction of Mike Gamble, Preston Watamaniuk, Derek Watts, Parrish Ley and other industry veterans. In his article, BioWare general manager Gary McKay stated that Mass Effect 5 "don't require support from the full studio" at this point.
This has lead to many employees being transferred to different projects with Electronic Arts. We already know that some BioWare employees are lending a hand on the next Battlefield. That said, a small number of positions are being cut at the same time, though those affected have the chance to apply for a new role at EA.
An Electronic Arts spokeperson spoke to IGN on this matter.
"The studio's priority was Dragon Age. During this time there were people continuing to build the vision for the next Mass Effect. Now that The Veilguard has shipped, the studio's full focus is Mass Effect."
"While we're not sharing numbers, the studio has the right number of people in the right roles to work on Mass Effect at this stage of development."
