The partnership between Team Ninja and PlatinumGames for Ninja Gaiden 4 was an Xbox idea

Last week, Koei Tecmo appeared on the Developer_Direct to announce Ninja Gaiden 4. The fourth entry, due for release next autumn, is fruit of a collaboration between Team Ninja Studios and Platinum Games.
In an interview with Game Watch, Team Ninja producer Fumihiko Yasuda revealed that his team had been thinking about doing a new Ninja Gaiden for a long time now, but the company couldn't come with a precise plan. It was Phil Spencer, the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, who put forward the idea of working with Platinum Games.
"I think everyone knows that the Ninja Gaiden series has been on hold for over a decade, but Team Ninja had been thinking about creating a new title for a long time:"
"We were having trouble coming up with a precise plan. Then Koei Tecmo president Hisashi Koinuma and PlatinumGames president Atsushi Inaba, who belong to the same generation and are good friends, had the opportunity to discuss the matter."
"Phil Spencer from Microsoft then suggested that the three companies (PlatinumGames, Koei Tecmo and Microsoft) work together on a new numbered title in the Ninja Gaiden series, and that's how the project got off the ground."
