This article contains major spoilers related to The Last of Us Part II story!
After the resounding success of the first season of The Last of Us, PlayStation Productions and HBO are already thinking about the future. If the adaptation has so far remained faithful to the game, things could significantly change in the future. Indeed, Craig Mazin, the co-producer and co-screenwriter of the series, recently stated that he did not want to be constrained by the script depicted in The Last of Us Part II.
This statement sparked controversy given the traumatic events that take place in the second game. Indeed, Joel is killed in the first few minutes, which would force actor Pedro Pascal to have a minimal presence in this second season. The actor has just spoken out on possible narrative changes. “It wouldn't make sense to have followed the first game so faithfully to then deviate from the path”. It can therefore be understood that Pascal prefers to follow the story of The Last of Us Part II rather than have a more significant role.
On her side, Bella Ramsey (the actress who plays Ellie) has stated that if Joel's death occurs, “[…] I don't know if I'm emotionally ready for that”. In any case, this second chapter of The Last of Us is likely to divide opinions.
