Assassin's Creed Shadows will be censored in Japan due to excessive violence
, by Thibaut
While the story of Assassin's Creed Shadows takes place in Japan, it's there from all places that the game will be censored. In fact, Ubisoft has been asked to remove certain things from the game by the CERO classification organism.
Despite the CERO Z rating, which bans anyone under 18 from playing the game, Shadows has been deemed too violent to be sold in Japan as is. This prompts certain aspects of the game, such as dismemberment, to be removed.
"In regards to Assassin's Creed: Shadows (CERO: Z), there are some differences in the content of the Japanese version of the game, all in order to comply with the regulator's regulations."
"The option to enable or disable dismemberment has been removed from the game settings. Dismemberment of enemy heads and limbs is now permanently disabled. The representation of severed body parts has also been modified."
This is not the first time that CERO has taken a hard line on video game violence, with the remake of Dead Space being banned from sale back in 2023.
