Phantom Blade Zero's budget has gone up after the success of Black Myth: Wukong
, by Thibaut
Chinese investors are no strangers to the tremendous commercial success of Black Myth: Wukong. After all, the game has sold over 20 million units since it launched last August.
According to the China-based video game consultant Daniel Camilo, the success of Game Science's titel has made the budget for Phantom Blade Zero go up. Two devs who wish to remain anonymous says that S-GAME (the devs of the title) have secured even more funding from investors, who are looking to capitalize on the current popularity of Chinese games.
"To be clear: the success of Wukong did not by itself trigger all funding for Phantom Blade 0. Phantom Blade was very advanced in development once Wukong launched."
"The tremendous success of Wukong in China in particular signaled to many investors that AAA gaming is the new golden egg. Many studios saw investments coming their way after Wukong released. This is not news."
"What is news,is that PB0 did get a substantial amount of extra investments and funding thanks to the success of Wukong, allegedly. Both my sources agree that even before the actual release of Wukong, S-Game got new funding thanks to all the hype/metrics surrounding Wukong."
