Mario Kart 9's gimmick could be the kart fuel tank

As we noted in our gameplay analysis of Mario Kart 9, a strange, shiny object lies well off the track. And some have begun to speculate as to what purpose it serves.

It's thought to be some kind of fuel tank which, once picked up, would allow a character to get a boost at any time. You can also see a tank on Mario's kart, marked "1-UP Fuel", and it may be filledup with the help of this.

Since every Mario Kart (or almost every one) has a gimmick, it's quite possible that the one on Mario Kart 9 could be this related to this fuel tank. We'll get more official details on the matter at the Nintendo Direct on April 2.
