SEGA may bring back the Ecco The Dolphin franchise

Given how it's a la mode to resurrect old franchises, it's no wonder that SEGA may intend to bring yet another one back from the dead.
The website Gematsu reports that the Japanese company registered the trademakers "Ecco the Dolphin" and "Ecco" in Japan back on December 27. Of course, we don't know what SEGA plans to do with the franchise. Most of the times, registering these trademarks doesn't mean they will ever be used.
The first Ecco released for the Mega Drive in 1992, and its sequel, Ecco: The Tides of Time, two years later. The latest entry in the franchise, Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future came out for the Dreamcast in 2000.
