PlayStation VR2: Sony reportedly reduces production targets by 20% for 2023
, by Thibaut
What if the virtual reality market were slowly starting to fade away? This is the question we are entitled to ask ourselves, as the current trend is clearly not favorable. This is even more true for Sony, which is experiencing a difficult launch with its PlayStation VR2. Indeed, sales of the headset are estimated at less than 300,000 units worldwide.
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, an extremely reliable analyst, Sony has decided to reduce production plans for its headset by about 20% for 2023. Thus, since demand is quite low, the manufacturer will create fewer units in order to save money. It's a small admission of failure, even if the PS VR2 is far from being buried.
For its part, Meta's Quest Pro is not doing much better, with only 300,000 headsets shipped worldwide. As for Chinese brand PICO's headsets, their shipments were more than 40% lower than the company's targets. Yes, the virtual reality market is in sharp decline.
